The legal documents include: A Revocable Living Trust designed to maximize legal protection of your assets from outsiders while allowing both of you to control your property as you see fit and avoiding probate,  A Domestic Partnership Property Agreement outlining certain property arrangements to avoid gift tax pitfalls, A Last Will and Testament for each of you specifically designed to thwart Will contests, A Financial Power of Attorney for each of you allowing the other to act on their behalf in most legal and financial transactions, A Healthcare Power of Attorney for each of you allowing the other to make healthcare decisions if one of you is incapacitated , and A Living Will for each of you directing a doctor to withhold life support and artificial nutrition if you are in a persistent vegetative state or you are terminal and incurable.
